What camera and lenses do you shoot with?
I shoot with this camera though I own the previous model. When I’m out and about, I shoot with my iPhone. My favorite for food photography is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8. My standard sight-seeing and food photography zoom lens is the Canon EF-S 18-200mm. I use the Canon Speedlite Flash when I’m in a bind for natural light (also known as most of the fall and winter seasons.) I also have a couple of inexpensive, white foam boards to reflect light onto whatever meal I’m shooting.
Do you have any photography tips?
How do I get the look of your blog?
I use a premium theme called Thesis which is very customizable. That being said, I’ve done a lot of customizing to get it look the way it does now.
Who are your web and graphic designers?
Currently, I do all of my web design. I’ve found that learning a little bit of html can go a long way – and save a lot of money. It’s incredibly time consuming but you can learn how to do almost anything in regards to web design via the internet. I worked with Bailey Doehler to create my header, logo and business cards. Since then, I’ve taught myself how to use Photoshop Elements to do some small graphic design projects myself, like make buttons for the sidebar.
I’m new to blogging. Do you have any pointers?
Boy, do I! First and foremost, be you. Next, be honest. Know that people like big and beautiful photos. Use them. Find your niche by thinking about what inspires you to write. Be inspired by others but be yourself. Use WordPress. Note that WordPress.com doesn’t allow advertising or sponsored review posts. You’ll need a third-party host for that. I use and love Bluehost.
On graduate school and studying to becoming a registered dietitian:
I get a lot of questions about my career change to become a R.D. so I dedicated an entire post to this topic. Check out FAQs: nutrition, a career change & grad school and if you have a question I haven’t yet answered, email me and I’ll be happy to.
What do you want to do next?
I talk a little bit about my post-graduation plans here but my long-term goal is to gradually build my own private practice and freelance writing portfolio while continuing to grow the blog and my social media presence.
On important life issues:
Can we meet for coffee or a run sometime?
Of course, email me!
What skincare and makeup products do you use?
I’m a skincare junkie, especially now that I’m in my 30s and things are starting to go downhill. You can find a list of my beauty necessities here.
How did you meet your fiancé?
I’ve been meaning to write a post on this but, long story short, we met at a restaurant (though some might consider it a bar) in Chapel Hill. He was in town on business and I was working on my grad school prepreqs. The first thing he noticed about me? My shoes. It was meant to be!
