wedding planning: our save the dates

February 8, 2013

In the spirit of Friday, I thought I’d share a little DIY wedding project I did last Fall, before Master’s thesis-writing and the craziness of graduation began – our Save the Dates!

I loved the idea of sending our closest family and friends luggage tags since we’re getting married in Italy so I scoured Pinterest and Etsy until I found this one that had the exact rustic look I was going for. I absolutely adored it but saw a few things that I wanted to add – like the actual date of our wedding and a spot for traveler info on the back – so I took it upon myself to recreate them.

I designed them using Photoshop, ordered some lace and cute hole reinforcements and printed them on a thick, brown paper from a local craft store. The hubs-to-be even got in on the action once assembly began – he was tasked with punching holes and placing the stickers at the top of each Save the Date.

To finish them off and add a little international wedding flare, I wrapped each luggage tag in decorative world map paper -

They were a big hit among our friends family – I hope some will actually use them on their luggage when they fly to Italy! I love any and all DIY projects but given all that we have going on this spring, I think I’ll be ordering the actual invitations online.

Did you do any DIY wedding projects for your own wedding? Or have you been tasked with doing some for a friends?

Got any online wedding invitation websites you can recommend?

That is about the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen! I get so jealous of brides these days with Pinterest and blogs being available at your fingertips. I would’ve been dangerous if I had that stuff when I got married! Can’t wait to see more of your details and live vicariously through you!

Those are very cute! I love when people DIY for their wedding decor…makes so much more sense to me, personally, than spending thousands for wedding stuff.

Wow! Those look awesome and hello, jealous of your wedding destination! My Father in Law is a designer for Chrysler (well he was when we got married in 2001) and he designed our invitations for us, loved them.

You are SO creative. I think you should reconsider your career path and become a designer :) I love that you got the fiancé in on the action too!

This look fantastic!! I DIY’ed the Save the Dates (hate that you can’t abbreviate that) with Photoshop then printed them through Vistaprint on magnets. They turned out so great. I ordered invites, but I then made the table numbers, escort cards, and signs. We didn’t have a theme to the wedding, so I just went with a simple design.

Super cute! I went a little DIY crazy when we first got engaged but I’ve since calmed down, thank God. I realized that (1) I’m not very crafty and (2) I don’t exactly have a lot of time to do crazy DIY projects. So we picked a few things that we thought were manageable (table numbers, flower petal cones) and those are the things we’ll be making ourselves. And yes, invitations are almost always better bought online :)

Cute! I’m planning on doing my own invites, but used an e-invitation save the date. I used punchbowl.com — they were also a huge hit because you “open” an envelope and everything online.

Oh my goodness! Those are amazing. I adore them. You should create your own Etsy shop. If you need a good person for affordable, beautiful, and unique invitations let me know:-)

I absolutely adore these! Our wedding was also a destination one on a beach, so we sent messages in a bottle as Save-the-Dates. ;-) And since we love to travel, my friend threw me a travel-themed shower with invitations similar to what you have here.

Enjoy!
